Why heavy debris gets its own container
Clean concrete, brick, block and asphalt can be processed into recoverable aggregate rather than buried, which makes them cheaper to handle than mixed waste. That only holds if the load is genuinely clean.
One timber offcut, a run of protruding rebar mesh or a bag of general rubbish in an otherwise clean concrete load reclassifies the whole container as mixed debris, and the price follows.
In this part of Connecticut the volume is real. Stone walls, granite kerbing, fieldstone footings and old stone patios turn up constantly, and there is ledge under a great deal of the inland ground.
The container is small and that is correct
Heavy debris goes in a 10 yard, filled to no more than a level load. That is not caution. A 10 yard filled level with concrete is already at the legal road weight for the truck carrying it.
Customers regularly ask for a 20 or 30 for a patio or driveway tear-out and are surprised when we decline. A 30 yard filled with masonry could not legally be moved, so it would simply sit on the property as a very expensive ornament.
For larger demolition we run multiple 10 yard containers or stage them across the job. It is more deliveries, and it is the only way it can be done.
Stone, ledge and what counts as clean fill
Clean: poured concrete, concrete block, brick, unpainted stone and masonry, asphalt, clean soil and gravel. Fieldstone from a wall and blasted ledge both qualify.
Not clean: anything with timber attached, rebar protruding beyond the concrete, painted or coated masonry, plasterboard, tile with adhesive backing, or general construction waste mixed in.
Rebar cast inside concrete is normally acceptable; mesh sticking out of broken slabs is not, because it fouls the processing plant. Cut it back flush where you can, and ask before you load rather than after.
Soil, excavation and the wet ground problem
Soil is heavier than most people believe and wet soil is heavier again. A 10 yard of saturated ground will hit road weight well before it is level.
If you are excavating, tell us and we will plan the number of containers from the cubic yardage rather than guessing. Excavation waste is the most commonly underestimated material we handle, and on a site with ledge the volume of rock coming out frequently exceeds the estimate.
Where soil is of unknown origin or potentially contaminated it needs testing before disposal, and that is a slower process that cannot be short-circuited.

Why can't I have a 30 yard for concrete?
Because it could not legally be transported once loaded. A 10 yard filled level with concrete already reaches the road weight limit for the truck. A larger container would simply sit on your property unable to move.
Can I mix a bit of timber in with the concrete?
It reclassifies the whole load as mixed debris and the price changes accordingly. If there is timber to dispose of, use a separate general container — the saving on keeping the masonry clean usually more than covers the second box.
Do you take stone walls and fieldstone?
Yes, as clean fill, in a dedicated container filled level. Old stone walls are common here and the tonnage in even a short run of wall is usually far more than the owner expects.
What about ledge and blasted rock?
Same arrangement — a dedicated 10 yard, level load, and we will work out the number of containers from the volume rather than guessing. On a site with ledge that number is routinely higher than the original estimate.
