Local detailsBecause the answer genuinely changes from one town line to the next, and for two reasons that have nothing to do with distance.
The first is how a truck gets there. Commercial vehicles are banned from the Merritt Parkway along its whole length, so no roll-off can use Route 15. Everything runs on I-95, the Post Road and the north-south surface roads, which makes New Canaan, Wilton and Weston meaningfully longer runs than the map implies.
The second is disposal. Every town in lower Fairfield County runs its own residents-only arrangement, and none of them is a route for a contractor's container. Stamford has a private transfer station and materials recovery facility in the city; elsewhere the load routes to private transfer capacity. Given that Connecticut now exports roughly 41% of its municipal waste out of state, where a load can go is not a trivial detail.
Each area page below covers the access quirks, the routing and what to expect on the ground.
